When Do I Use Form I-824?
Use Form I-824, Application for Action on an Approved Application or Petition, to apply for a duplicate approval notice, Form I-797. Form I-824 can be used in a few different circumstances, but duplicate approval notices are the most frequently requested. Keep in mind that you will not receive a replacement EAD (work permit) or green card if you file Form I-824.
Who Is Eligible
If you were ever issued an approval notice from the USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Services) or CBP then you can apply for a duplicate approval notice. This is useful if you are applying for an adjustment of status and you cannot find your original approval notice.You use Form I-824 to get a replacement approval notice, Form I-797. Once you have your approval notice, you can use it to apply for other immigration benefits.
